After eBay began managing payments for sellers, the company became responsible for issuing 1099-K tax forms directly to users. This was a significant change from getting tax documentation from PayPal because of the way eBay reported transactions and the configuration of their financial reports. This was a significant change that led to widespread confusion.

In 2020-2021, I worked closely with product management and customer insights teams to create educational content to explain the purpose of the 1099-K form, and provide clear, effective product education that helped sellers understand how to reconcile their earnings using eBay’s reporting tools. Specifically, I provided first-hand insights on account reconciliation process, synthetized insights from seller chatter across the internet (e.g., YouTube, eBay Community, Reddit, Twitter, etc.), and provided overall guidance to ensure the final product is something that fit into seller workflows.
